I am based out of Taylorsville, North Carolina and I travel regularly to sessions all over!
WHAT IS YOUR AVAILABILITY?
Sessions are typically booked 2-4 months in advance. I do try my best to accommodate those with immediate needs. Contact me for current availability or to discuss a session.
HOW DO I BOOK A SESSION?
To book a session, there are two requirements. First, a session contract must be signed. This step is super simple. Session contracts are sent via email, once the client has read over the entire contract there is a button to sign the contract digitally. No printing, scanning or mailing is required. After the session contract is signed a separate email will be sent which is the invoice for the 50% non refundable retainer/deposit. The retainer/deposit can be paid using a debit or credit card. The remaining session balance will be due on session day in cash. NO CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED. The time and date is not booked or secured until both have been completed.
HOW DO I PREPARE MY HORSE FOR A SESSION?
For the best images and end result, clean and prepare your horse as if you were going to a show (clipping, bath, braiding/banding, hoof polish, etc.). Be sure the horse is completely dry and has been brushed thoroughly. These sessions are typically done in a bridle with the reins detached and a lead rope attached to one side of the bit. For western bridles, reins will be attached like normal and loosely hung around the horse. In addition to the bridle, a nice leather halter is also a great look for pictures or if you prefer no halter or bridle, a leadrope around the horses neck can be photoshopped out later in post production.
HOW DO I PREPARE MYSELF FOR A SESSION?
Professional hair and makeup is highly recommended. Also, be sure you have someone available to help you prepare your horse if doing so right before your session. This ensures your hair and makeup looks the best and you do not sweat or get dirty right before pictures.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
If your session package comes with multiple outfit changes I always suggest a nice casual outfit (pair of jeans, nice blouse or sweater), a dressier outfit (maxi dress, romper, etc) and a show outfit.. Of course, these are only suggestions, I want each client to feel comfortable and wear what they feel best in. Heels and wedges are discouraged due to walking around in dirt and grass and the possibility of uneven footing. Avoid busy patterns as they typically do not photograph well. Neutral colors are flattering with every horse coat color but a pop of color is also a great option with a contrasting horse coat color.
DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING TO THE SESSION?
Along with your outfit changes and favorite bridle and halter, I suggest bringing your horses favorite treat. I have some tricks to help get ears up but your horses favorite treat may be just the trick! Bring a friend! During a session you can never have too many assistants and helpers. I always try to bring an assistant with me but sometimes I do not have an assistant available.
I'M NOT SURE IF MY PROPERTY WILL WORK FOR A SESSION?
Most of the sessions I photograph are on the property where the horse is located, most properties offer a variety of scenery but if you prefer to haul off site I do have venues and locations available to recommend.
WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR A BLACK BACKGROUND SESSION?
For black background sessions I do not use artificial light. I use natural light coming from the entrance to a barn aisle or indoor arena. Be sure to sweep/rake the areas and have the areas clear of any objects in order to have the largest area possible. If your barn or location has multiple areas that would work clean those areas as well since I will not be able to tell which location will be best until I get there. I recommend that the horse be photographed in a bridle or a fitted leather halter, if no tack is the preference, the horse can be photographed with a leadrope around the neck and it will be removed later on in post production.
I DON'T SEE THE SESSION I WANT TO BOOK ON THE WEBSITE?
All sessions are fully customizable and include a personal print release for you to have the ease of printing the digital images at your leisure. The personal print release also includes permission to use and post the images on personal websites and business pages of the client.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY DIGITAL IMAGES?
Turnaround time is typically 2-3 weeks with expedited editing services available for $150 for a 48 hour turnaround time. Digital images are delivered in an online gallery that will allow you to download the images directly to a mobile device or computer. Online galleries are active for 3 months from the day the gallery is sent, after the 3 month period, the gallery will be archived. If the digital images need to be resent at any time after the 3 month period a $50 archive fee will be charged.
